My passion for beauty products was first uncovered when a high school friend of mine took me shopping for my prom makeup. I'd never been to Sephora or MAC before, but he showed me all the good stuff! I remember lusting after a Dior eyeshadow but being scared off by the sticker price, opting for Cargo Bordeaux instead, which truly didn't suit me at all but it matched my prom dress, haha. First Sephora purchase in hand, I stepped in to MAC. I remember the posters for the Salsabelle collection were on the wall, and I looked at the original release of Parrot eyeshadow as well as Guacamole. I almost bought Guacamole but - dumb me - passed because it wasn't available in a pro pan! Still kicking myself over that one. Of the items I purchased that day, I still have Oyster Girl lipglass and Amber Lights eyeshadow. Unfortunately my dear Oyster Girl is discontinued now.
Since then I have become a total makeup junkie! I discovered MakeUpAlley, an entire website of people just as makeup crazed as me! It was fantastic. :) My screen name there is still the same as when I first joined, alyheartsyou. Although there is plenty of drama, it's still my favorite website. I'm also a member of Specktra, TotalBeauty, and MakeUpTalk.
In March of 2008 I decided to start my own beauty blog. I have loved blogging since I got my first Livejournal account in 1999. I really wanted my opinions, thoughts, wishes, etc. about beauty products and sales etc. to have their own space, seperate from my personal journals. And thus, The Gloss Menagerie was born on March 8, 2008.
When I am not spending time on blogging or at work, I enjoy spending time with my friends, family, and boyfriend Nick (also known on the blog as Mr. Boyfriend or Mr. Menagerie). I also have 2 cats (I post about them sometimes), Sienna and Sebastien, who I spoil and love very much.
